Three plays–original, “world premieres” honored as winners of the Marshalltown Community Theatre’s Playwriting Competition–kick off the 2026-2027 Season for the Community Theatre.
–
See “Impromptu–“The Almost Demise of Carter and Taffy Mitchell” by Justin Nostrala,
a comedy in which a young married couple play a game about marriage counseling, and learn that sometimes silly games can be risky to a marriage.
–
See “Two Old Farts” by Alexander Richarson,
a comedy where two grumpy fellows attend a performance of “The Bear” by Anton Checkov. These fellows–the title characters–mange to disturb the actors and provide on-going commentary for the audience.
–
See “Belady’s Anomaly” by Sara Lastine,
a play that competition judges said served up “tension and curiosity from the beginning” which was sustained throughout, and was the kind of a show “which generates discussions and arguments for days after a performance.”
